Cleaning

1. Wipe off stains with a clean, dry cloth. If the stains cannot be wiped off, use a neutral
detergent.
CAUTION:
Never use benzene, alcohol, thinner, trichloroethylene, or any of the ketone family of
solvents because they may deform or damage plastic and rubber components.
2. Thoroughly clean all parts of the printer with a vacuum cleaner.
Note:
Check the amount of lubrication in each cleaned area and lubricate as needed. See "Lubricants"
below.

Lubricants

Lubrication is critical to retaining the printer at its initial performance level throughout its
product life, as well as avoiding potential problems. Always lubricate at prescribed intervals,
using the correct lubricants.

Lubrication Standard

During disassembly and reassembly, clean the parts first, then lubricate them. See the
lubrication points table in this chapter and the lubrication and adhesive points diagrams in
the Appendix.
Lubricate or overhaul after every 5 million lines printed.
Lubricants
The types of lubricants used greatly affect the printer's performance and durability, and a
lubricant's low-temperature characteristics require special attention. EPSON has conducted
thorough analyses of the technical data and wide-ranging experimentation on different
lubricants. The EPSON selection of lubricants prescribed for use with the printer is based on the
results of such research. The prescribed EPSON lubricants are available in 40cc (40gr) metal cans
or plastic containers (the smallest unit of supply).
The two types of lubricants used with this printer are G-31 and O-10.
