Chapter 6. Solving problems

This section provides basic information about the diagnostic tools available to help
you solve some common problems that might occur while setting up the blade
server.
If you install the blade server in the BladeCenter unit and the blade server does not
start up, check the following:
v Make sure that the BladeCenter unit is properly connected to a power source.
v Reseat the blade server in the BladeCenter unit (see "Installing the blade server

– If the LED is lit continuously, make sure that the KVM select button is lit. If the
KVM button is not lit, see "The control panel buttons and LEDs" on page 12

The power-on self-test beep codes indicate the detection of a problem.
– One beep indicates successful completion of POST.
– Repeating long beeps indicate a memory error has occurred. Make sure that
all DIMMs are correctly installed.
– Any other combination of beeps indicates that POST detected a problem.
Error messages also appear during startup if POST detects a
hardware-configuration problem. Make sure any devices you might have installed
are correctly installed.

Use the problem isolation tables to find solutions to problems with definite
symptoms. These tables are in the Problem Determination and Service Guide for
your blade server.
