Your DES-2218 Ethernet switch supports a console management interface
that allows you to set up and control your switch, either with an ordinary
terminal (or terminal emulator), or over the network using the TCP/IP
protocol. You can use this facility to perform many basic network
Telnet
management functions. In addition, the console program will allow you to
set up the switch for management using D-View or another SNMP-based
network management system. This chapter describes how to use the console
interface to access the switch, change its settings, and monitor its operation.

Connecting to the Switch

You can use the console interface by connecting to the switch using an
ordinary RS-232C serial cable and a VT100-compatible terminal or a
computer running an ordinary terminal emulator program (such as the
program included with the Windows operating system.) Your
terminal
terminal parameters will need to be set to:
VT-100/ANSI compatible
