Driving your vehicle
System operation
僅 From the time the air bag deploys,
Multi-Collision Brake monitors the
depression intensity of the brake
pedal and accelerator pedal for a
short period. The system operates
when the following conditions are
met:
- Vehicle speed is under 180 km/h
(112 mph) at the time of collision.
- The brake pedal and accelerator
pedal are pressed only slightly .
僅 When the driver steps on the brake
pedal over a certain level whilst Multi-
Collision Brake is active, the braking
power takes priority over automatic
braking by Multi-Collision Brake sys -
tem. However, if the driver takes his/
her foot off the brake pedal, Multi-
Collision Brake system will maintain
automatic braking.
System off
僅 Multi-Collision Brake is cancelled in
the following situations:
- The accelerator pedal is depressed
over a certain level.
- The vehicle stops.
- ESC (Electronic Stability Control) or
electronic devices has malfunc -
tioned.
- In a situation system cannot oper -
ate normally.
- Ten seconds have passed since the
brake has been controlled auto -
matically by Multi-Collision Brake
system.
WARNING
僅 Multi-Collision Brake decreases vehi -
cle speed after a collision and reduces
the risk of a second collision, but it

does not prevent a second collision.
You may drive away from the collision
spot to avoid other dangerous situa -
tions by depressing the accelerator
pedal.
僅 After the vehicle is stopped by Multi
Collision Brake, the system stops con -
trolling the brakes.
Depending on the situation, the driver
should depress the brake or the accel -
erator pedal to prevent a further acci -
dent.
Vehicle Stability Management
(VSM)
Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)
provides further enhancements to vehi -
cle stability and steering responses.
Operating VSM
Operation
僅 Press the ESC OFF button to turn VSM
off and the ESC OFF indicator light ( )
is appeared.
僅 Press the ESC OFF button again to
turn VSM on and the ESC OFF indica -
tor light ( ) will go off.
Operating condition(s)
僅 Driving on a slippery road
僅 Friction change of left and right
wheels is detected
Non-operating condition(s)
僅 Driving on a gradient or inclined sur -
face
僅 Driving in reverse
僅 ESC OFF indicator light ( ) remains
appeared
