Basics about batteries

In order to ensure a long use, the battery must be inspected,
serviced and cared for according to the versions in this work‐
shop manual.
In addition to the function as energy supplier for the start opera‐
tion, the battery has further tasks as buffer and supplier of elec‐
trical energy for the complete electrical on-board power supply
in the vehicle.

Caution
When the battery is being replaced, the correct battery type
must always be selected.
The correct battery type must be assigned according to vehi‐
cle type, engine type and equipment using the ⇒ Electronic
Catalogue of Original Parts "ETKA".
The batteries described in the following are maintenance-
free. The labels must not be released and or covers for cell
plugs must not be removed or no distilled water must be
topped up.
Battery with a magic eye »Standard«
In all vehicle types with the battery in the engine compartment
(except vehicles with the start-stop system and vehicles with
the auxiliary heating and additional heating), maintenance-free
batteries with liquid electrolyte and magic eye are installed.
