The parking brake warning light _
(USA)/.
(CON) illuminates when the parking
brake is set and you switch on the ignition .

WARNING
-
Always release the parking brake com-
pletely. A partially engaged brake will
overheat the rear brakes, reduce the ir ef-
fectiveness and cause excess ive wear. This
cou ld lead to brake failure and an accident .

Note
Only after the ve hicle has come to com-
plete stop, should you f irm ly set the park-
ing brake and move t he gearsh ift lever into
a gear .
Parking
To prevent a parked vehicle from rolling
away, there are a few things you should do.
.,. Stop the vehicle using the brake pedal.
.,. Set the parking brake firmly .
.,. Switc h off the engine .

your vehicle on an incline or decline
Turn the steering wheel so that if the vehicle
should sta rt to roll, it will roll into the curb .

WARNING
This is how yo u can reduce the risk of in-
jury when leaving your veh icle.
- Never par k the vehicle whe re it can come
in contac t wit h dry grass, s pilled fuel or
any other flammable mater ials .
- Never allow anyone - especially small
children - to rem ain in t he vehicle whe n
it is locked. Locked doors ma ke it mo re
difficult for rescuers t o access the pas -
senger compartment
in the event of an
emergency. Danger to life!
- Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle. Children could release the park-
ing brake or move the gea rshift lever out

- No matte r what the season is, the tem-
peratu re in a parked veh icle can reach
dangerous leve ls.
Starting on hills
Applies to vehicles : wit h hill ho ld assist
Hill ho ld assist makes it eas ier to start on
hills .
The system is activated when the brake peda l
is depressed for a few seconds .
After releasing the brake pedal, t he brake
power is held for a brief moment to prevent
the vehicle from rolling back when starting .
During this t ime, you can easily begin to move
your vehicle.

WARNING
- If you did not begin moving immed iate ly
after rel easing the brake pedal, the vehi-
cle could beg in to roll bac kward unde r
cer ta in circums t ances . Depress the brake
pedal imme diate ly or eng a ge the par king
bra ke.
- If the engine sta lls, de press the bra ke
ped al imme diate ly or engage the pa rking
brake .
- To prevent t he vehicle from ro lling back
un intent iona lly when st art ing in stop -
an d-go tra ff ic, keep the brake pedal de -
pressed for a few seconds before d riving
off.
