Selecting the needle thread

Needle size and thread type must be carefully matched. The correct needle size depends both on the
selected thread type and the fabric to be sewn. The fabric weight and type determine the thread weight,
needle size and point form.
Needle thicknesses of 70 - 90 can be used on the machine.
Thread type
Polyester overlock thread No. 120
Polyester multifilament < No. 120
Wooly nylon
Decorative thread/yarn
Metallic thread
Check the Needle/Thread Combination
The needle/thread combination is correct if the thread is guided perfectly into the long
groove and through the eye of the needle.
The thread can break and cause skipped stitches if there is too much play in the long
groove or eye of the needle.
The thread can break and become jammed if it frays on the edges of the long groove and
is not guided optimally through the eye of the needle.

Selecting the looper thread

A wide range of thread types can be used as looper threads which can threaded with the One-step BERNINA
air threader. For very thick threads, the air threader circumvention must be used. (see page 87)
Damage by coated or waxed threads
NOTICE
Coated or waxed threads may lose some of their coating in the air threader pipes, resulting in permanent
blocking of the pipes. Repair by a BERNINA dealer will be necessary. Avoid use of coated or waxed threads.
