[1] FADER control
When the unit is used in a 4-speaker
system, turn counterclockwise to de-
crease the volume of the speakers con-
nected to this unit.
Set to the center position when the unit
is used in a 2-speaker system.
[2] VOL (volume) / PUSH RADIO / PULL BAIL
(balance) control
Turn clockwise for more volume.
'Press to turn on the radio.
Pull out and turn to adjust the balance of
the right and left channels.
[3] & EJECT (eject) button
Depress to stop tape transport and to
take out the cassette.
DOLBY NR switch (XR-SS50R/551R/552R
only)
Depress for Dolby NR processed cas-
sette.
5} METAL button
Depress for TYPE Hl (CrQ,), TYPE lil (Fe-
Cr) or TYPE IV (METAL) cassette. ~
[6] AMS (automatic music sensor) button ©
Depress to search for the beginning of a
selection.
[7] Cassette insertion door

The ®& indicator shows the playback of
the upper side of the cassette, and the <q
the lower side.
[10] Display window
DISPLAY button
Depress to display time indication during
radio reception. Press again to resume
the frequency indication.
[12] SURROUND switch (XR-550R/551R/552R
only)
Depress to obtain natural and rich
reproduced sound, almost like being ina
concert hall, with a 4-speaker system.
With a 2-speaker system, depress to ob-
tain optimum stereo effects.
[13 Graphic equalizer controls
Slide upwards or downwards to equalize
the reproduced sound.
[14] MANUAL button
Press to manually tune in the station. ®
Press also for clock setting. @
[15] MONO button and indicator
'Depress if noise makes it difficult to hear
the FM stereo program. The Indicator will
light up. The STEREO Indicator on the
display window will disappear.
{f@] LOCAL button and indicator
Depress to receive only strong signal sta-
tions or to receive an AM station at night.
The indicator will light up.
[7] BAND key
Press to select the desired band.
SEEK key ©
Press for automatic tuning.
[13] M (memory) button
Press to memorize the frequency during
radio reception. ® *
Press also for clock setting. O
SDK button (XR-532A/552R only) ®
Press to receive traftic information.
[21] Preset buttons ®
Press to memorize the frequency or to
receive a preset station.
