You can take _dv_mtage of surround sound
simply by selecting one of the receiver's pre-
programmed sound fields. They bring the
exciting and powerful sound of movie theaters
and concert halls into your home. You can also
customize the sound fields to obBdn the sound
you want by changing the various surround
parameters.
To fully enjoy surround sound, you must
register the number and location of you
spe_kers. See "Multi channel surround setup"
starting fi'om page 19 to set tbe speaker
parameters before enjoying surround sound.
Press A, DEC,
"AUTO DECODING" _ppears in tbe displ_y.
This mode automatically detects the type of
audio signal being input (Dolby Digital, DTS,
or stan&_rd 2 ch_mnel stereo) and performs the
proper decoding if necessary. This mode
presents the sound as it was recorded/encoded,
without adding any eflk'cts (e.g. reverber_tion).
However, if there are no low frequency signals
(Dolby Digital LFE, etc.) it will generate a low
frequency signal for output to the sub woot?r.
You can enjoy surround sound simply by
selecting one of 1he pre-progTammed sound
fields according to the progr_m you want to
listen to.

About DCS (Digital Cinema Sound)
The sound fields with _ mark use DCS
technology. When these sound fields are
selecled, "Digital Cinema Sound" indicator in
the display lights up.
In collaboration with Sony Pictures
Entertainment, Sony measured tbe sound
environment of their studios and integrated the
data of the measurement and Sony's own DSP
(Digit_d Signal Processor) technology to
develop "Digital Cinema Sound". In a home
thealer, "Digital Cinema Sound" simul_tes an
ideal movie the,_ter sound environment based
on the pre'{?rence of the movie director.
