MULTI ROOM OPERATION
Multiroom Operation
When operating theAVR635 from a remote room
location where, an IRsensor l ink hasbeenconnected
tothe AVR635's rearpanel M ultiroom IR Input_.._,
youmayuseeither t he mainremote control o r the
ZoneIIremote. Toturnon the multiroom feed,press
theAVRSelector_@
to turntheuniton to the
lastsource, o r anyofthe otherSelectorButtons
@(_)O_(_I)
to 1urn on to a specific source.
Aslongasan IR feedto theAVR635 hasbeen
established fromthe remote room,usinganyof the
buttons on eitherremote willcontrol t he remoteloca-
tionvolumeql]_O,
change the tunerf_equency
_@,
change the tunerpreset_(_
or mute
theoutput_q_14.
Ifthe RemoteIR OutputJack _ ontheAVR635
is connected t o an IRInput j ackon compallble
Harman Katdon audiocomponents s uchasCD,DVD
or cassette players, the transport functions of those
machines m ayalsobecontrolled usingtheTransport
Controls_)_]_[_(_ql[_}_]l_
on either
remote control.
Toturnthesystemofffromthe remoteroom,press
thePower Off Button CO.
Remember thatthe
AVR 635 maybeturnedon or off fromthe remote
room,regardless of the system's operation or statusin
themainroom.
NOTE: W henthe tuneris selected asthesourcefor
theremotezone, a nychange to the frequency or pre
setwillalsachange the stationbeinglistened to inthe
mainroom,if thetuneris inusethere. S imilarly, if
someone inthe mainroomchanges thestation, t he
change winalsohaveanimpact o n the remote morn.
Toturnon theMultiroom system fromthe mainlisten
ingroom,whichis necessary b eforeanyA-BUSprod
uctsconnected t o theAVRmaybe used, p ressthe
Multiroom Button _
on theremote. Whenthe

on screen display andthe Lower DisplayLine _"_lj,
pressthe Set Button _
andthenpressthe A/V

sothatdisplay changes t o

activate the setting. N otethatthismethod maybe
usedto turnthe Multiroom system on or off even
whentheAVRis inthe Standby m odeinthe main
listening room.
When theMultiroom system isturned on,the input
selected u sing the MuWroom m enu willbe fedto the
MultiroomAudioOutputs€_' on therearpanel a s
wellastheA-BUSConnectorQ. Thevolume will be
assetinthe previous s election, although it mayalsobe
adjusted using an optional IRsensor a ndtheZoneII
remote inthe remote location, or the A BUSkeypad,
or on theoptional audiopower amplifier c onnected t o
the MultiroomAudio Outputs9,
Although changes to the inputsourceor remoteroom
volume willnormally b e madeusing an IRsensor i n
the remote roomthatis connected to theAVR, i t is
alsopossible to change thosesettings f romthe main
listening room. T hisis useful f orsituations w heresome
or all of the remote roomsdo not havean IRsensoT,
or to takecontrol o verthe remote roomwithout a ctu-
allybeinginthatroom.
Inaddition to usingthe 11 UL T I R0 0 11menu, a s
shownonthe previous p age,youmaychange the
source or volume inthe remote zoneusing the
remote. P ress the Multiroom Button _
on the
remote, andwhenthe 11 U L T I 0 N / 0 F F men
sageappears inthe on semen display andthe Lower
DisplayLine _'_1, p ressthe Set Button _
and
thenpressthe A/V

Tochange the remotemom'sinputsoume, when
MU L T I I NP UT appears, press the Set Button

untilthedesiredinputappears inthe on screen
display andinthe Lower DisplayLine _"_J,
Remember thatonlyanalog or PCMinputsources
maybe selected forusewiththe Multiroom system.
DolbyDigital or DTSsources are notavailable t o the
Multiroom system.
Tochange the remoteroom's volume, w hen
MU L T I L EV EL appears, press the Set Button

to change thevolumeselting. N otethatthisvolume
adjustment controls the level f or theoutputto the
MultiroomAudio Outputs_) andforanyspeakers
connected t o the SurroundBacWMultiroom
SpeakerOutputs@ whenthe Surround Back
amplifier c hannels areconfigured forMultiroom use,
asshownon page36. Thisadjuslment doesNOT
change thevolumelevel f oranymornwhereanA
BUSmodule is used,asthatsettingis onlyadjustable
usingtheA BUSmodule's volume control o r a remote
pointed at theA BUSmodule's builtqnsensor.
Oncethe Multiroom systemis turnedon, it will remain
on evenif the AVR635 isplacedinthe Standby
modeinthe mainroomby pressing the PowerOff
Button _
or the MainPowerSwitch [] onthe
frontpanel.
TheMultiroom systemwillremainonevenif the unitis
turned off in themainroom.Inthatevent,although
front-panel indicators a ndtheaccentlighting around
the volume control w illturnoff,a 11 U L T I 0 N
message w ill remain in theLower DisplayLine []
andthelighting around the Standby/On s witch will
remain bluewhenthe unitis inthe Standby modein
the mainroomto remind youthatpowerisstillapplied
to the unit,andthatit is beingusedfor Multimom
operation elsewhere i nthe house. R emember thatif
youturnthe unitcompletely o ff bypressing the Main
PowerSwitch [], the feedto the second zonewill
alsobeturnedoft
WhentheAVR635 is turnedoffin themainroom,
the Multiroom system maybe turned on atanytime
bypressing the Multiroom Button _,
or anyof the
SelectorButtons @ @(_)
inthe remote room.
