Belt Maintenance

Replacing the Mower Belt

Service Interval: Every 50 hours
Squealing when the belt is rotating, blades slipping when
cutting grass, frayed belt edges, burn marks and cracks
are signs of a worn deck belt. Replace the deck belt if
any of these conditions are evident.
1. Disengage the PTO and set the parking brake.
2. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3. Unlatch and remove the carrier frame cover.
4. Unlatch and remove the belt covers.
5. Remove the PTO drive belt. Refer to Replacing the
PTO Drive Belt.
6. Disconnect the idler arm spring to relieve tension on
the idler arm and idler pulley, then remove the worn
mower belt (Figure 41).
7. Install the new mower belt around the two outside
spindle pulleys, the idler pulley, and in the lower
groove of the double spindle pulley (Figure 41).
8. Connect the idler arm spring (Figure 41).
9. Install the PTO drive belt. Refer to Replacing the
PTO Drive Belt.
10. Install the belt covers onto the cutting unit and
secure the latches.
11. Install the carrier frame cover onto the cutting unit
and secure the latches.

Replacing the PTO Drive Belt

Service Interval: Every 50 hours

cutting grass, frayed belt edges, burn marks and cracks
are signs of a worn drive belt. Replace the drive belt if
any of these conditions are evident.
1. Disengage the PTO and set the parking brake.
2. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3. Unlatch and remove the carrier frame cover.
4. Unlatch and remove the belt covers.
5. Remove the heat shield from the engine deck and
carrier frame.
6. Roll the belt off of the left pulley on the mower deck
(Figure 42). Use caution when removing the belt as
tension will increase because of the spring loaded
idler pulley.
7. Remove the belt from the engine pulley and the
spring loaded idler pulley (Figure 42).
8. Install the new belt onto the engine pulley and spring
loaded idler pulley (Figure 42).
9. Install the new belt onto the right pulley and roll the
belt onto the left pulley (Figure 42). Use caution
when installing the belt as tension will increase
because of the spring loaded idler pulley.
