5. To change the IP settings, do the following:
a. In the IP Address field, type the IP address.
b. In the IP Subnet Mask, type the subnet mask of the router.
The IP address and subnet mask identifies which addresses are local to a specific
device and which must be reached through a gateway or router.
6. To change the RIP settings, do the following:
a. From the RIP direction menu, select a direction:
• Both: The router broadcasts its routing table periodically and incorporates
information that it receives.
• Out Only: The router broadcasts its routing table periodically.
• In Only: The router incorporates the RIP information that it receives.
b. From the RIP version menu, select the version, if any:
• Disabled: This is the default setting.
• RIP-1: This RIP format is universally supported. It is adequate for most
networks, unless you are using an unusual network setup.
• RIP-2B: This RIP format carries more information. RIP-2B sends the routing
data in RIP-2 format and uses subnet broadcasting.
• RIP-2M: This RIP format carries more information. RIP-2M sends the routing
data in RIP-2 format and uses multicasting.
c. If you select RIP-2B or RIP-2M in the previous step, as an option, select one of
the following security options from the RIPv2 authentication mode menu:
• Text: RIPv2 communication is protected by a password, which you must set
in the Password field.
• MD5: RIPv2 communication is protected by the MD5 message-digest
algorithm, for which you must set a password in the Key String field. This
option is the most secure option for RIPv2.
