Basic adjustment for EPA/EU chain saws with speed limited ignition systems (AM50, DM51)
and carburettors with limiters (RWJ4)
The models CS 2166, CS 2172 and CS 2172 WH are equipped with speed limited ignition systems and carburet-
tors with limiters. A slightly different adjustment procedure is necessary when replacing the carburettor or needles on
.
these models
Speed limitation
Due to the integrated speed limitation in the ignition system most tachometers will not indicate a speed above the
value that the speed limitation is set to. Speed limitation regulates at: 365 X-TORQ 13 300 rpm, 372 XP X-TORQ
13 300 rpm, 372 XPG X-TORQ 13 300 rpm.
Carburettor with limiters
On EPA/EU carburettors both the H- and L-needles are fitted with limiters to prevent the chain saw operator from
changing the adjustment above EPA/EU standard. These limit the adjustment range to a maximum of ½ turn.
After replacing the carburettor or high speed and/or low speed needle on an EPA (The US Environmental Protection
Agency)/EU (European union) certified product, a basic adjustment must be carried out as described below in order to
meet the EPA/EU-requirements. This is to achieve as low emissions as possible. This instruction is made for EPA/EU
certified products only.
Adjustment of the L-needle and T-needle.
1. Turn the L-screw counterclockwise to stop using a
common, flat carburettor screwdriver.
2. Turn the T-screw until the idling speed is 3 000 rpm.
3. Press in the locking sleeve on the L-screw using the
special screw driver with splines.
4. While keep pressing the screwdriver, find the high
estidling speed by slowly turning the L-screw clock
wise and counter-clockwise.
