15.0 LOW VOLTAGE WIRING

The thermostat and control wiring should be a minimum of 18 AWG copper. Excessive lengths of wire may
result in enough voltage drop to impair the proper functioning of the furnace. For thermostat wires in excess of
25 feet (7.6m), use 16 AWG; 50 feet (15.2m), use 14 AWG.

SINGLE STAGE THERMOSTAT

The automatic heat staging option allows a single stage thermostat to be used with a two stage furnace. The
control provides a movable jumper (P5) to select between 5 minute and *10 minute automatic staging. Auto-
matic staging time begins when the blower is energized after the heat blower delay period. If the jumper is in
the 5 minute position, the control will automatically start high heat after 5 minutes of continuous low heat op-
eration. If the jumper is in the *10 minute position, the control will automatically start high heat after 10 minutes
of continuous low heat operation. Once high heat is started from automatic staging, the demand for high heat
remains until the heat call is satisfi ed.
Adjust Thermostat Heat Anticipator Mechanical thermostat:
Set thermostat heat anticipator to match the amp draw of the electrical components in the R--W circuit.
Accurate amp draw readings can be obtained at the wires normally connected to thermostat subbase
terminals R and W. The thermostat anticipator should NOT be in the circuit while measuring current.
1. Remove thermostat from subbase or from wall.
2. Connect an amp meter across the R and W subbase terminals or R and W wires at wall.
3. Record amp draw across terminals when furnace is in low heat and after blower starts.
4. Set heat anticipator on thermostat per thermostat instructions and install on subbase or wall.
The board and gas valve in a Wolf Steel furnace have an amp draw of .9 amps.
If using an Electronic thermostat: Set cycle rate for 3-4 cycles per hr.
