Using the Expansion Ports to connect two X-Frame 88s
In addition to the MM-8802, the Expansion Ports can be used to connect two X-Frame 88s to create an integrated system with
two DPU processing engines. To connect X-Frame 88s together requires an understanding of the X-Frame 88's Link feature
and the configuration of the multiple view files within the X-Ware software. When connecting two X-Frame 88s in a single
integrated system, there are several factors to consider.
It is very important to understand that connecting the Expansion Ports of one X-Frame 88 to another X-Frame 88 does not
"combine" the DPU resources of both units. Each unit remains an independant processor with a digital audio "link" between
them. This link provides transport of 8 digital audio inputs and outputs between the two units. And because they are two sep-
arate units, each will require a separate view file and a separate connection to the configurating computer.

In the example above, the only thing common to both units is the digital audio link connected to the Expansion Ports. These
two CAT 5 cables carry the proprietary digital audio from one X-Frame 88 to the other and back again. Think of it this way.....a
single X-Frame 88 has 8 analog inputs, 8 analog outputs and an additional 8 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs. These digital
inputs and outputs however, are limited in use to MediaMatrix products, specifically the MM-8802 break-out box and addi-
tional X-Frame 88s. This digital interface is a proprietary connection.
