The X-Frame 88 is designed to be installed in commercial grade, EIA elec-
tronic equipment racks only. Installing this unit in non-EIA racks or in
other configurations is not recommended. Failure to install this product in
the proper enclosure may void your warranty.
The X-Frame 88 is forced-air cooled, and care should be taken not to block
the air intake or exhaust path. When installed in EIA racks, the X-Frame 88
can be installed in adjacent rack spaces without additional venting.
However, it is recommended that common sense be applied to large installa-
tions where multiple units are mounted in a single rack. It is generally
accepted that a ratio of one vent for every two X-Frame 88s is a good rule of
thumb that usually provides adequate performance. In installations where
adverse conditions exist, and room temperatures are likely to rise, additional
vents should be installed.
The X-Frame 88 can be installed into any EIA rack with an internal depth
clearance of 24" or more. This will allow plenty of space for the unit and its
associated wiring harness. When dressing off wiring harnesses, take care
with CAT 5 cables. Do not tie-wrap bundles of CAT 5 wire too tightly.
Leave plenty of room for bends, allowing the cable to progress naturally from
the RJ-45 connector. Creating tightly wrapped CAT 5 wire bundles can
cause loose crimp joints and defective terminations.
To successfully install your new X-Frame 88, and perform the testing exam-
ples contained in this manual, you will need the following components:
A MediaMatrix
X-Frame
®
X-Ware 2.2 or later software.
A Windows personal computer with the following minimum require-
ments: Intel
Pentium
500 Mhz CPU, 64M memory, 20G HDD, FDD, CD-
®
Rom drive, PCI or AGP video adaptor with 8M video memory, 17" monitor
configured for 1024x768 (75 Hz) operation, Windows
If you are using the expansion ports, two CAT 5 cables are required for
each additional MM-8802, X-Frame 88 or MM DSP-RJ.
An audio source, power amplifier and loudspeaker.
In MediaMatrix, the minimum configuration consists of a single DPU pro-
cessing engine and I/O. Depending on your system, this may consist of sev-
eral products. When using the X-Frame 88, at least one unit is required to
configure the minimum system.
The use of high quality, network grade CAT 5 cables is required to success-
fully implement the X-Frame 88 with additional MediaMatrix products.
Please refer to the section on CAT 5 cabling later in this manual.
