Replace Mower Blades
1. Install the spacers, blades and bolts on
the spindle shafts.
2. Secure blades with a wooden block to
prevent blade rotation.
3. Tighten blade bolts to a torque of 163
N•m (120 lb-ft).
4. Replace ignition wire on spark plug.
Sharpen Blades
See Figure 47.
WARNING: AVOID INJURY.
Use sturdy gloves or padding to
protect hands when working with
mower blades.
Rotation of one blade rotates the
other blades.
Always wear safety eye
protection when grinding.
Sharpen blades with grinder, hand file,
or electric blade sharpener.
Keep original bevel when grinding.
Blade should have 0.40 mm (1/64")
cutting edge or less.
Balance blades before installing.
CAUTION: DO NOT sharpen
mower blades while on unit. An
unbalanced mower blade will
cause excessive vibration and
eventual damage to unit.
NEVER weld or straighten bent
blades.
NOTICE: If mower is used under sandy soil
conditions, replace mower blades when air
lifts become eroded through at ends. See
Figure 48.
1. Remove mower blade from unit.
Discard mower blade if:
More than 1.3 cm (1/2") of metal is
removed. See Figure 48.
Air lifts become eroded.
Blade is bent or broken.
