Configuring the
Module

Port Enable

The CoreBuilder 5000 Distributed Management Modules provide
network management for the CoreBuilder 5000 hub and its modules. If
you are using a Distributed Management Module, the dip switch
settings on the 24-Port module are ignored. For this reason, use
network management commands, rather than the dip switches, to
configure the module.
Do not manage (get statistics or configure) this module from a slave
management module.
If network management is present when you first install the module,
the network (channel) defaults to isolated mode and the ports are
automatically disabled (so that users can't join the network undetected
by network management). Therefore, you must enable the ports you
wish to use and set the module's ports to the appropriate network
using management commands.
You can use network management to configure the following for
24-Port modules:
enable/disable any port on the module
configure redundancy
enable/disable Link Integrity on any port
select the Ethernet network (channel) for each port on the module
configure remote diagnostics (if you will be connecting the ports
using 3Com's Fault-Tolerant 10BASE-T Transceiver).
For additional information on any network management command
described in this section, refer to the CoreBuilder 5000 Distributed
Management Module Commands Guide.
You can enable or disable each of the ports on the 24-Port module.
When a port is enabled, it can transmit to and receive data from the
network (channel) to which the module port is assigned. Use the
following network management command to enable a port:
SET PORT { slot.port } MODE {enable}
{ slot .all}
