XPANDING THE
ETWORK
One of the primary advantages of dividing your network layout into
smaller isolated networks is the potential increase of network
workgroups. Workgroups enable administrators to have more flexibility
in organizing their network, while simultaneously decreasing the
amount of traffic on the backplane segments of the hubs in which the
workgroups reside. The following section provides a detailed example
of how workgroups help administrators to efficiently organize users in
their network.
Network administrator Jane Smith plans to reorganize the development
and support organizations in her company by dividing each department
within those organizations into separate workgroups. Currently, each of
the organizations are connected to separate backplane segments as
shown in
