About this Manual

1.1

Scope

This manual is intended for use by service technicians familiar with mobile two-way radio
equipment. It contains service information required for the equipment described and is current as of
the printing date. Changes which occur after the printing date may be incorporated by a complete
manual revision or alternatively as additions.
NOTE
Before operating or testing these units, please read the Product Safety and RF Exposure
booklet (Motorola publication part number 6881095C99) enclosed with your radio.
1.2

Organization

This manual is organized such that the first three chapters contain non–band-specific information,
and the remaining chapters cover band-specific information (for example, VHF low power, UHF
Band 1 high power, etc.).
All data on control heads–including board overlays, schematics, and parts lists–is contained in
Chapter 2, and all data on controllers is in Chapter 3.
The band-specific chapters (Chapters 4–13) each contain their own sections on:
model charts and technical specifications (Section 1)
theory of operation (Section 2)
troubleshooting charts (Section 3)
board overlays, schematics, and parts lists (Section 4)
Every chapter includes its own table of contents. In addition, the introductory page for each
schematics section in the manual has allocation charts, indicating the page numbers for each board
overlay, schematic and parts list in the section.
