4. The "Installing driver software" window opens. After the driver is installed you will see the message that
"The software for this device has been successfully installed" (fig. T).

5. For Postscript printers, or those bundled with Vista, installation is complete. For raster or GDI printers,
right-click on the icon for your printer in the Printers control panel and select "Properties" from the list. Click
on the "Ports" tab and you will notice that the port selected is FILE, not the USB or parallel port the printer is
connected to.
If connected to a parallel port, scroll through the list of ports until you find the correct port (usually LPT1),
click the checkbox next to that port and click the "Apply" button in the bottom right corner. If connected to
USB you will see a USB Virtual Printer Port listed that is not assigned to a printer (fig. V). Click the checkbox
for that port, then click the "Apply" button in the bottom right corner. That USB port is now assigned to the
printer (fig. W).

6. Click on the General tab, click the "Print Test Page" button and make sure it prints correctly. Installation is
complete. You may skip the rest of the steps and begin using the printer.
7. If you received an error during installation you will need to install the printer using one of the following
alternate installation methods. Start with the first alternate and work your way through the other methods
until one is successful.
