Configuring an RX3i PROFINET Scanner

The PROFINET I/O Scanner is automatically assigned 32 bits of Status data and 32 bits of
Control data. These should be mapped to the I/O Controller's memory. For definitions of
these bits, refer to Section 5.2.1 PROFINET Scanner Status and Control Data
The PROFINET Controller (PNC) to which the PNS is connected determines the state of the
inputs whenever the PNS is unable to provide them. This could happen when the PNS is not
powered on, not connected to the network, or there is a network or configuration issue such
that the PNC cannot communicate with the PNS. PNCs available from Emerson support
defaulting inputs to Force Off or Hold Last State values until PROFINET communications are
restored.
Configure the network parameters of a PNS (IP Address, subnet mask, and gateway) so that
each device on the PROFINET network has a unique IP Address. The PNC will configure the
network parameters for the PNS during the Connect sequence.
When the network parameters are set with the DCP tool, they will be maintained over a
power-cycle while no PNC is connected. If a PNC is connected and the network parameters
configured for the PNS do not match the currently retentive parameters stored on the
device (those set using a DCP Tool), then the PNC will assign the configured network
parameters to the PNS for immediate use during the connection process. This will have the
effect of overwriting the retentive values that were set by DCP with the factory default
values for IP, subnet, and gateway, (0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0). Note that if the PNS is
subsequently power-cycled without a PNC connected, the PNS will power up with the
default network settings because network settings configured by the PNC are not retentive.
