SUBJECT: SERVICE ACTION: SORENTO (XM) EXTERIOR BULB REPLACEMENT (SA 031)
This bulletin provides information relating to Sorento (XM) vehicles built from October 23, 2009 to
February 12, 2010 that may experience reduced life for some of the exterior bulbs. Even though a
customer's initial concern is only in regards to a single bulb, Kia recommends replacing all eight (8)
bulbs simultaneously per instructions in this Bulletin.
The following instructions explain a simpler replacement procedure than currently listed in the
Sorento (XM) shop manual to replace Front Park/Turn Signal Bulbs, Rear Combination Bulbs, and
Redundant Bulbs located in the deck lid.
Front Headlamp bulb replacement does not require any component removal. Rear bulb
replacement is achieved by removing Rear Combination assemblies. Bulbs in Redundant lighting
assemblies can be changed via the access panels in the deck lid as shown in the photo below on
the right.
The photo above on the left shows the back view of the front headlamp assembly. Do not remove
the front headlamp assembly to change the turn signal bulb. If necessary use a suitable tool to
firmly push the pink bulb cover tab (arrow) while using other hand to assist in rotating the cover
counterclockwise to open.
NOTICE
Ensure that the dual filament bulbs are installed properly. The dual contacts must line-up correctly
in the socket for proper bulb operation.
After replacing the bulbs; reinstall components. Verify that all new bulbs are functioning properly.
Ensure that the dual filament bulbs are installed properly.
