Cisco Catalyst 2940 Series

Compact fixed-configuration switches delivering Fast Ethernet connectivity for
workgroup, conference room, and classroom deployments.
The Cisco Catalyst 2940 Series are small, standalone, managed switches with eight
Fast Ethernet ports and a single integrated Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet uplink.
These switches are designed for deployments outside the wiring closet in the
end-user workspace, such as classrooms or conference rooms.
They feature a durable metal shell, no fan for silent operation, a magnet for easy wall
or under-the-desk mounting, a security lock slot to prevent theft, and an available
cable guard to lock down cables and help prevent theft. The Catalyst 2940 Series
run Cisco IOS Software with comprehensive security and manageability, delivering
network intelligence all of the way to the network edge.
Easy to install and manage, built to last, and receiving periodic software updates for
life, these switches provide outstanding investment protection and the lowest total
cost of ownership in their product class.
In addition, Cisco offers Catalyst 3560 Series and Catalyst 2960 Series Compact
Switches which integrate Power over Ethernet, and additional intelligent services
into a similar form-factor as the Catalyst 2940 Series. The Catalyst 3560 Series and
Catalyst 2960 Series Compact Switches enable services such as Cisco Unified
Communications, wireless, and advanced security to be deployed in office
workspaces, classrooms, and other space and wiring constrained environments.

Comprehensive Management
The Cisco Catalyst 2940 Series has robust SNMP
Management Information Base (MIB) support and
is fully manageable by the CiscoWorks suite of
network management tools. The Catalyst 2940
Series feature an embedded Graphical User
Interface (GUI)-based Device Manager, enabling
network managers to quickly and easily configure
their switches. With Cisco Network Assistant, a
PC-based software application, customers can
also simultaneously configure and troubleshoot
multiple Cisco Catalyst switches using a standard
Web browser. Cisco Network Assistant provides
configuration wizards that greatly simplify the
implementation of converged networks and
intelligent network services.
Investment Protection
In contrast to low-end unmanaged switches that
often have high failure rates and do not stay current
with new technologies, the Catalyst 2940 Series is
engineered for long-term value. A durable all-metal
shell, an exceptionally high meantime between
failure (MTBF) of over 70 years, and a Limited
Lifetime Warranty all help to ensure that this switch
will outlast most deployment time frames.
Finally, the switches provide a smooth migration to
Gigabit Ethernet uplinks.
