Chapter 3. Installing the appliance in a rack

Use the procedures in this section to install the appliance in a rack.

Installing rails in the rack frame

The rails are for a 19 inch (48.26 cm) rack. The rack-mounting kit includes the
following parts:
v Two (2) mounting rails with built-in extenders
v Two (2) brackets with a built-in captive screw to secure the appliance to the rack
v Two (2) standard rack screws to secure the rails to the rack frame
v Four (4) screws to secure the brackets to the appliance
Best Practice: Use two people to install the rails in the rack frame.
To install the rails, use the following procedure:
1. Position the left and right mounting rails in the rack (as shown in Figure 3) so

2. Insert the left rear of the rail into the rack frame. You can adjust the length of

that the two (2) left blue tabs face the two (2) right blue tabs.
v The front of each rail is capped with an angle bracket.
v The rear of each rail has an angle bracket that is recessed approximately 3
inches (7.6 cm).

the rail by sliding the rear mounting mechanism back and forth to align it to
your rack. When you release the locking mechanism, the whole mounting
mechanism then slides on the rail, as shown in Figure 4 on page 14.
