This new appliance offers an innovative, pragmatic approach to harness the power of
distributed caching as a complete, purpose-built, easy-to-use solution. It allows you
to leverage the value of your existing infrastructure investments. The DataPower®
XC10 appliance lets you bring higher performance, fault tolerance, and scalability to
common distributed caching scenarios including:
• HTTP session replication
• Extended Dynamic Cache service of WebSphere® Application Server
• Web side-cache accessed via a network connection
A large (160 GB), remote, partitioned, replicated, scalable data cache can be used
for storage of simple key/value pairs. This cache can be utilized instead of a back-
end database to provide increased application scalability and performance.
The DataPower XC10 appliance can offer:
• Reduced hosting charges / processing on more expensive systems (lower cost per
transaction)
• A mechanism to free up strategic systems to do more important work
• Better scalability and support for future growth (no bottlenecks)
• More robust support for cross data-center data replication

Overview
IBM DataPower XC10 appliance is a purpose-built, easy-to-use appliance designed
for simplified deployment, exceptional performance, and hardened security at the
caching tier of your enterprise application infrastructure. It adds distributed caching
functions to the IBM DataPower line of appliances, enabling your business-critical
applications to scale cost effectively with consistent performance.
The DataPower XC10 appliance is designed for simple installation and rapid use
("plug-and-play") with WebSphere Application Server V6.1 and V7.0, where it can
deliver a cost-effective distributed caching solution in support of common distributed
caching scenarios such as HTTP Session Replication, and Web side-cache accessed
via a network connection. DataPower XC10's fault tolerance and large 160 GB cache

• Weight: 37.48 lb (17 kg) The IBM 9235 DataPower XC10 appliance must be installed in an EIA-310-D 19-in. rack with at least 28 in. of depth (from rail flange to flange). To assure installability and serviceability in non-IBM industry-standard racks, review the installation planning information for any product-specific installation requirements. - Page 8 (typically a terminal emulator running on an IBM PC). A 6 foot long "NULL modem" cable, with two female DB-9 connectors, is provided with the appliance for this purpose. The terminal's serial parameters should be set to 9600 baud, no parity, 1 stop bit, XON/XOFF handshaking.

If required, IBM provides repair or exchange service depending on the type of warranty service specified for the machine. IBM will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone, or electronically by access to an IBM Web site. You must follow IBM United States Hardware Announcement 110-102... - Page 10 CRUs are designated as being either a Tier 1 or a Tier 2 CRU. Tier 1 CRU Installation of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1 CRU at your request, you will be charged for the installation.
- Page 11 IBM will repair the failing machine at your location and verify its operation. You must provide a suitable working area to allow disassembly and reassembly of the IBM machine. The area must be clean, well lit, and suitable for the purpose. The following on-site response-time objectives are available as warranty service upgrades for your machine.
- Page 12 For machines with On-site Same-day Response Service, IBM will replace a Tier 1 CRU part at your request, at no additional charge. Tier 2 CRUs: You may install a Tier 2 CRU yourself or request IBM to install it, at no additional charge.
