5.2 Preparation for installation

Valve and control thermostat can be assem-
bled before or after the valve has been in-
stalled in the pipeline. We recommend first
installing the valve without the control ther-
mostat into the pipeline.
Before installation, make sure the following
conditions are met:
− The valve is clean.
− The valve, control thermostat and all pip-
ing are not damaged.
− Install a strainer upstream of the regula-
tor.
− The valve data on the nameplate (type
designation, valve size, material, pres-
sure rating and temperature range)
match the plant conditions (size and
pressure rating of the pipeline, medium
temperature etc.). See the 'Markings on
the device' section for nameplate details.
− The requested or required additional fit-
tings (see the 'Design and principle of
operation' section) have been installed or
prepared as necessary before installing
the valve.
Proceed as follows:
Î Lay out the necessary material and tools
to have them ready during installation
work.
Î For steam applications, dry the pipelines.
Moisture will damage the inside of the
regulator.
Î Check any mounted thermometers to
make sure they function properly.

5.3 Installation
The components (valve, control thermostat
and, if applicable, accessories) of the SAM-
SON regulator are delivered separately. Up-
on delivery, the separate components must
be assembled together. The activities listed
below are necessary for installation and be-
fore start-up of the regulator.
WARNING
!
Risk of injury due to incorrect lifting without
the use of lifting equipment.
Lifting the regulator without the use of lifting
equipment may lead to injuries (back injury
in particular) depending on the weight of the
regulator and/or control thermostat.
Î Observe the occupational health and
safety regulations valid in the country of
use.
Î Observe the guideline weight for manual
handling: 15 to max. 55 kg per person
taking into account age, gender and
physical fitness.
Î Refer to the 'Design and principle of op-
eration' section for the weights of the
regulator and control thermostat.
DANGER
!
Danger due to suspended loads falling.
Î Stay clear of suspended or moving
loads.
Î Close off and secure the transport paths.
