Now consider the scenario presented in Figure 2-2. Worker A and Worker B are working at a remote
location, outside the coverage area of the repeater. While their radios are conÞgured for repeater
operation, they are unable to communicate.

In order to communicate with each other, Worker A and Worker B simply switch their radios into
Repeater Talkaround mode (one of the side buttons may be programmed to toggle between
repeater operation and Repeater Talkaround).
When Repeater Talkaround is activated, the radio's transmit and receive frequency are
automatically conÞgured to be the same, bypassing the repeater. This is often termed "back-to-
back" or "simplex"communication.
Later, when the two worker move back into the repeater coverage area they simply switch their
radios back to repeater operation to communicate with their other colleagues.

Receive Only Channel Personality
Using the CPS you are able to programme channels to be Receive Only (ie. the radio user is unable
to transmit on those channels designated Receive Only).
This feature allows your customer to effectively manage his communication system. For example,
consider the following customer requirement:
You are asked to implement a simple, reliable communications system for a major road construction
project. After a detailed analysis of the communication requirements, you identify several critical
operations that need careful co-ordination.
