HAFFMANS  GMT   INTRODUCTION   Intended use The CO Gehaltemeter is only intended to be used to determine the gas equilibrium pressure and the temperature of a liquid when calculating the CO content. The instructions in this manual refer to the position numbers given in the diagram in appendix Safety This section gives the most important instructions for the safe use of the CO Gehaltemeter.

  • Page 11: General Product Information

HAFFMANS  GMT   GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION   The CO Gehaltemeter is based on Henry’s law, which applies for an equilibrium state between a gas and a liquid in a confined space. This law states that the quantity of gas dissolved in a liquid at a certain temperature is proportional to the partial pressure of the gas above the liquid.

  • Page 15: Operation

HAFFMANS  GMT   OPERATION   The CO Gehaltemeter is suitable for measuring pressures up to 5 bar. It is extremely dangerous to allow the pressure in the Gehaltemeter to increase to more than 5 bar, because the Gehaltemeter may explode. Warning The pressure in the instrument must not exceed the range of the pressure gauge whilst taking samples (otherwise the pressure gauge will break).
  • Page 16 HAFFMANS  GMT   Example:   Information: Temperature (T) = + 1.5 Pressure (P) = 0.7 bar The slide rule gives a CO value equal to 0.51 percent of the weight (weight %). Page 16 of 37...
  • Page 17: Calibration

HAFFMANS  GMT   CALIBRATION   Determining the accuracy of the pressure gauge The CO Gehaltemeter’s pressure gauge is accurate to 1% of its total scale. The pressure gauge can be calibrated using a Haffmans Gauge Calibration Device (GCD). Method: Attention! The pressure gauge is calibrated for the most common pressures, i.e.
  • Page 18: Adjusting The Handle

HAFFMANS  GMT   Adjusting the handle   The handle is set so that the electrical connection is made before the measurement is started, just before the handle is fully depressed. The handle does not normally need to be adjusted, but can be adjusted if necessary. Method: Attention! Do not unscrew the adjusting screw too far, because the handle...
  • Page 19: Maintenance And Cleaning

HAFFMANS  GMT   MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING   Daily The CO Gehaltemeter must be thoroughly rinsed with cold water after all the measurements have been taken. Method: Attention! The temperature in the room must not fall below 0 1. Connect the supply hose to the water tap, 2.
