In Case of Emergency
3. Connect the jumper cables in the
exact sequence as shown in the
illustration.
(1) Connect one end of a cable to the
positive terminal on the discharged
¬
battery
.
(2) Attach the other end to the posi-
tive terminal on the booster
(3) Connect one end of the other
cable to the negative terminal of
®
the booster
.
(4) Connect the other end to a solid,
stationary, metallic point (for exam-
ple, the engine lifting bracket or the
strut mounting bolt) away from the
¯
battery
.

4. Start the engine of the booster vehicle
and run it a few minutes. Then start
the engine of the other vehicle.
5. When finished, carefully disconnect
the cables in the reverse order
described in Step 3.
After your vehicle is started, let it idle for
­
a while to let the engine "relearn" its idle
.
conditions and drive it around for a little
while with all electrical accessories
turned off to let the battery recharge. You
may need to use a battery charger to fully
recharge the battery.
WARNING
Handling the Battery:
Applying too much pressure on the
ends when lifting a battery could
cause acid to spill. Lift the battery
with a carrier or with your hands
on the opposite corners. Batteries
contain sulfuric acid which burns
skin, eyes and clothing. If acid
touches someone's skin, eyes or
clothing, immediately flush the area
with water for at least 15 minutes.
If someone swallows the acid, have
him or her drink lots of milk or
water first, then Milk of Magnesia,
a beaten egg or vegetable oil. Call
a doctor immediately.
