FLOATING HEAD UNITS
Height of cut
The front and rear rolls should be adjusted to give the
required initial height of cut. Both front and rear rolls must
be set so that they are parallel with the bottom blade and
also each other. All three units should be set so that they
all cut at exactly the same height.
The height of cut is determined by the position of the front
and rear rolls in relation to the bottom blade. The heights
can be varied from 6mm (1/4in.) to 44mm
(1 3/4in.) and can be adjusted in 6mm (1/4in) steps as
follows:
NOTE: The bottom 6 holes in the carriage are not used in
this application. They can be used for a higher height of
cut if required but check clearances.
1. Remove complete unit from the lifting arm and
turn upside down.
2. To set the initial minimum height of cut the
locating pins should be in the top holes of the
carriage plate.
3. Using the setting bar on the front and rear
rolls, release the locknuts by removing the 'R'
clip and move the barrel and pin away from the
carriage plate and rotate in the required
direction to align underside of setting bar screw
head with the bottom blade lip. When the rolls
have been set, tighten locknut, locate pin in
top hole of carriage plate and replace 'R' clip
4. Loosen the locknut on the parallel checking
screw and adjust the screw to make contact
with the rear of the bottom blade and retighten
locknut.
5. Repeat instruction 3 on the opposite end of the
unit and ensure the parallel checking screw
is making contact with the bottom blade.
6. To change the height of cut, remove the 'R'
clip and move the barrel and pin away from
the carriage plate. Relocate the pin in the
required hole and replace the 'R' clip.
7 Repeat instructions 1 to 6 for all units
Note: Instruction 6 can be carried out with the units
fitted to the lift arms.
