    Chapter 2 Loading paper and envelopes The machine can feed paper from the standard paper tray or the optional lower tray. When you put paper into the paper tray, note the following: ■ If you are loading Letter, A4 or Executive size paper the machine will automatically detect the paper size.

    Chapter 2 Loading documents You can send a fax, make copies, and scan from the ADF (automatic document feeder) and from the scanner glass. Using the ADF (automatic document feeder) The ADF can hold up to 35 pages and feeds each sheet individually.

    Using the scanner glass You can use the scanner glass to fax, copy or scan pages of a book or one page at a time. Documents can be up to 215.9 mm wide and 297 mm long. Note To use the scanner glass, the ADF must be empty.

    Setup Date and Time When the machine is not in use it will display the date and time. If you set up the Station ID, the date and time displayed by your machine will be printed on every fax you send. If there is a power failure, you may have to reset the date and time.

    Station ID You should store your name or company name and fax number so they print on all fax pages you send. It is important that you enter the fax number in the internationally standardised format, i.e. in accordance with the following strict sequence: Press Menu/Set, 0, 3.

    Mode Timer The machine has three temporary mode keys on the control panel: Fax, Scan and Copy. You can change the number of seconds or minutes the machine takes after the last Scan or Copy operation before it returns to Fax mode.

    Chapter 3 Paper Size In the standard paper tray, you can use seven sizes of paper for printing copies: Letter, A4, B5, JISB5, Executive, Com10 and DL and two sizes for printing faxes: Letter and A4. The machine automatically detects A4, Letter and Executive paper size that is in the paper tray.

    Beeper Volume You can change the beeper volume. The default setting is Med . When the beeper is on, the machine will beep when you press a key, make a mistake, or after you have sent or received a fax. Press Menu/Set, 1, 4, 2.

    Sending a fax How to Fax Entering Fax mode Before sending faxes or changing fax send or receiving settings, make sure illuminated in blue. If it is not, press (Fax) to enter Fax mode. The default setting is Fax mode. Sending a fax automatically from the ADF This is the easiest way to send a fax.

    Contrast If your document is very light or very dark, you may want to change the contrast. For most documents the default setting 'Auto' can be used. It automatically chooses the suitable contrast for your document. Use Light to send a light document. Use Dark to send a dark document.

    Chapter 5 Real Time Transmission When you are sending a fax, the machine will scan the document into the memory before sending. Then, as soon as the phone line is free, the machine will start dialling and sending. If the memory is full, the machine will send the document in real time (even if Real Time TX is set to Off ).

    Overseas Mode If you are having difficulty sending a fax overseas due to possible interference on the phone line, we recommend that you turn on the Overseas Mode. After you send a fax using this feature, the feature will turn itself off.

    Chapter 5 Delayed Batch Transmission (Monochrome only) Before sending the delayed faxes, your machine will help you economize by sorting all the faxes in the memory by destination and scheduled time. All delayed faxes that are scheduled to be sent at the same time to the same fax number will be sent as one fax to save transmission time.

    Composing the electronic Cover Page (Monochrome only) When you send a monochrome fax, you can send a cover page with your fax message. The Cover Page is sent to the receiving party’s machine. Your Cover Page includes the name or number stored in the One-Touch or Speed-Dial memory.
