POWER switch and STANDBYindicator
When this switch is pressed once, the power turns ON and indica-
tors appear on the display panel. When pressed again, the power
turns OFF and the STAND BYindicator lights up.
SURR.(surround) ON/OFF button
This is the switch turning the surround function ON/OFF.
When this button is in the ON position, the surround modeselected
with the SURR.(surround) button is activated. Whenit is in the OFF
position, the unit is in the 2-channel stereo mode.
LED display window
Shows the current surround mode, centre mode, etc.
Infrared sensor window
This window receivesinfrared signals from the remote control. Aim
the remote control at this sensor window for proper signal trans-
mission.
T.{test) TONE button
This button operates only in DOLBY surround mode. When pressed,
a test signal is output to each of the connected speakersin se-
quence.
This function is used to adjust the overall sound volume balance of
your surround system. Sound volume balance is adjusted using the
remote control.
To cancel the test tone, press the button again.
DELAYbutton
Press this button to display the surround sound delay time for five
seconds. You can change the delay time during this period by
pressing this button.
FL display window
Showsthe receiving mode, selections or other various modes.
ACOUSTIC button
The acoustic memory function stores up to 5 sets of the surround
mode, centre mode, delay time and volume set-ups as preset
memories.

This button is used when presetting or recalling the acoustic memory.
Numeric buttons 1 to 9
Use these buttons for selecting preset numbers of tuner preset
memory or acoustic memory.
0/CL(clear) button
.
This button is used as both a 0 number button and as a clear button
in various modes.
P.SCAN(preset scan) button
This button is used to automatically scan the tuner's preset stations.
When pressed, PRESET SCANflashes on the display and the tuner
starts scanning the presetstations.
MEMO (memory) button
Press this button to enter the tuner preset memory numbers,
acoustic memory preset numbersor the sleep timer period.
VOLUME control
Adjusts the sound volume. Turn the knob clockwise to increase the
volume.
This control adjusts the volume for the front, centre and surround
speakers simultaneously. Operationis also possible from the remote
control.

SPEAKERSselector buttons
Use these buttons to select speaker system 1 or 2, or both.
NOTE:
Select speaker system 1 when the surround mode is ON.
If the surround mode is switched ON while both speaker
systems1 and 2 are selected,the selection of speaker system 2
is cancelled automatically.
SURR. MODEbutton
This button is used to select the surround mode (DOLBY, MATRIX,
HALL or SIMULATED STEREO). When all surround mode indica-
tors are extinguished, the unit operates in normal stereo playback
mode.
CENTRE MODEbutton
This button is effective only inthe DOLBY surround mode andis used
to select NORMAL, PHANTOM, or WIDE mode, depending on the
existence and type of centre speaker usedin your surround system.
The selected centre modeindicator goes out when surround mode
other than DOLBYis selected.
PHONESsocket for stereo headphones
This jack accepts a standard stereo headphone plug.
Note:
Turn the SURROUND MODEoff when using the headphones.
SLEEP button
Press to set the sleep timer.
Function buttons
These buttons are used to select the sourceto be played or recorded.
The indicator will display the selected source.
BASSEQ button
Press this button to provide additional deep bass,especially for
movie soundtracks. Press again to turn the emphasis off.
MODEbutton
When the FM bandis selected, press this button to select the auto
stereo mode or mono mode. The AUTOindicator tights up in the auto
stereo mode.
AM and FM button
Press this button to select the band of the tuner.
Each time the AM button is pressed, the MW band and LW band is
switched alternately.
BASS and TREBLEtone controls
These controls are used to adjust the tone of the sound by boosting
or attenuating the low and high frequencies. The frequency range of
each control is boosted when the control is turned inthe + direction
and attenuated when turned in the —- direction.
TREBLE: Adjusts the tone of high-frequency sound.
BASS: Adjusts the tone of low-frequency sound.
PRESET UP and DOWNbuttons
During tuner reception, press these buttons to increase or decrease
the preset channel number.
TUNING UP and DOWNbuttons
During tuner reception, press these buttons to increase or decrease
the receiving frequency.
BALANCEcontrol
Adjusts the sound balance between the left and right speakers and
headphones.
