ABOUT YOUR WATER HEATER
HOTTER WATER INCREASES THE RISK OF SCALD INJURY
This water heater can deliver water at temperatures which can cause scalding.
Check the water temperature before use, such as when entering a shower or
filling a bath or basin, to ensure it is suitable for the application and will not cause
scald injury.
RheemPlus 854 Series
A RheemPlus 854 series water heater delivers water not exceeding 50°C in
accordance with AS 3498. The risk of scald injury will be reduced.
There is no need to fit a temperature limiting device to satisfy the requirements
of the Plumbing Code of Australia if a RheemPlus 854 series water heater is
installed and serving an application where 50°C is the maximum permissible hot
water temperature at the outlet of a fixture used primarily for personal hygiene,
such as in a bathroom or ensuite.
Rheemglas 850 Series
A Rheemglas 850 series water heater can deliver hot water at a temperature up
to 65°C depending upon the thermostat setting, sufficiently hot to cause severe
scalding. Water at this temperature may have been plumbed to fixtures where
water hotter than 50°C is allowed, such as the kitchen and laundry.
We recommend and it may also be required by regulations that an approved
temperature limiting device be fitted into the pipe work from the hot water outlet
and serving a bathroom and ensuite when a Rheemglas 850 series water heater
is installed. This will keep the water temperature below 50°C at the bathroom
and ensuite. The risk of scald injury will be reduced and still allow hotter water to
the kitchen and laundry.
TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT
The temperature adjusting dial is on the gas
valve, located behind the access cover on the
lower front of the water heater. A setting of '6'
will normally maintain the water temperature at
about 60°C. Each number represents a
temperature difference of approximately 6°C.
To increase the water temperature to 65°C,
turn the gas control knob anticlockwise to a
setting of '7'. Refer to
"Hotter Water Increases
the Risk of Scald Injury"
on page 13.
The water temperature is limited from a RheemPlus water heater so the water
temperature from the fixtures used primarily for personal hygiene does not
exceed 50°C. The setting of '7' should be used for a RheemPlus model to assist
in the specified operation of the temperature limiting valve. Increasing the
thermostat setting will not increase the outlet temperature but will provide more
hot water capacity.
