5.2 Operation of the IO-Link I/O modules on a grounded/ungrounded infeed

Protection against outside electrical influences
Below is a description of what you must pay attention to in terms of protection against
electrical impacts and/or faults:
• To protect against electromagnetic interference, connect the I/O devices to functional
ground.
• Ensure correct installation and routing of the supply, signal and IO-Link cables.
• Configure the system in such a way that an error does not result in undefined states.
– Line/wire break
– Cross-circuit in the cable

Operation of the IO-Link I/O modules on a grounded/ungrounded
infeed
Introduction
Information on the overall configuration of the IO-Link I/O modules on a grounded infeed
(TN-S system) is provided below. Statements regarding the TN-S system relate to the
upstream 24 VDC power supply that is connected to the TN-S system.
Together, the IO-Link I/O modules and the IO-Link master form a unit. The following items
must be noted for the configuration.
• IO-Link voltage supply via IO-Link master port class A
• IO-Link voltage supply via IO-Link master port class B
• Voltage supply for modules with high power demand via the M12-L power connector
The specific subjects discussed are:
• Disconnecting devices, short-circuit and overload protection to IEC 60364 (corresponding
to DIN VDE 0100) and IEC 60204 (corresponding to DIN VDE 0113)
• Load current supplies and load circuits
• Supply voltages of the IO-Link I/O modules
Grounded infeed
In grounded incoming supplies, the neutral conductor of the supply system is grounded. A
ground fault between a live conductor and ground or a grounded system component causes
the protective devices to trip.
