TIP: Rub the skin prior to lancing to increase blood flow.
NOTE
If the blood drop is too small, reapply pressure to get a sufficient blood drop.
7. Press the plunger in as far as it
will go and release it.
8. Press the opening of the AST
cap firmly against a fleshy area
on the alternate site.
9. Keep steady pressure on the
area and press and release the
plunger to obtain a blood drop.
Don't be afraid to apply
pressure to the area with the
lancing device to assist the flow
of blood. You can watch the
blood drop form through the
AST cap. The blood drop should
be approximately this size:
If the drop is smaller, release
the pressure for a few seconds,
without removing the lancing
device from the puncture site.
Then re-apply pressure on the
lancing device until you get a
sufficient blood drop.
