Emission C ontrol
Certain systems o f the engine
serve to keep the to xic com po­
nents o f the exhaust gases w ithin
permissible lim its required by law.
(Nevertheless, w e urgently advise
you not to let the engine run in a
closed garage). These systems,
o f course, w ill fu nctio n properly
only when maintained strictly ac­
cording to fa cto ry specifications.
Any adjustm ents on the engine
should, therefore, be carried out
only by qualified MERCEDES-BENZ
technicians. The adjustm ents o f
the engine should n ot be altered
in any way. Moreover, the speci­
fied service and maintenance jobs
must be carried out regularly ac­
cording to MERCEDES-BENZ serv­
icing requirements. For details refer

Maintenance Manual.
D riving Econom ically
R eco m m end ed shift points fo r
m anual transm ission
To obtain good results regarding
fuel econom y, the fo llo w in g shift
points are recomm ended:
S hift
from 1st to 2nd at 21 km /h /1 3 mph
from 2nd to 3rd at 35 km /h /2 2 mph
from 3rd to 4th at 52 km /h /3 2 mph
Engine Oil C onsum ption
Engine oil consum ption can only
be determ ined after a certain mile
age has been covered. During the
break-in period, higher oil con­
sum ption may be noticed and is
normal. Frequent high engine
speed operation w ill also cause in­
creased oil consum ption.
