NOTE
Power is supplied to the device as soon as the first power supply is
connected.

After the device has booted, verify that the power and status LEDs are green. The power supply LEDs display amber until
power-on self-test (POST) is complete, and then change to green. The switch usually requires several minutes to boot and
complete POST.
NOTE
To turn the system off, simply unplug the power
cables.
For more information about how to interpret LEDs and run diagnostics tests, refer to "Diagnostic tests and monitoring" on page 48.

Establishing a serial connection

To establish a serial connection to the console port on the device, complete the following steps.
1.
Verify that the device is powered on by verifying that all power LED indicators on the management, interface, power supply, and
fan modules display a steady green light.
2.
Connect the RJ-45 serial cable provided with the device to the management Ethernet port of the device.

NOTE
The console or serial port is intended primarily for the initial setting of the IP address.

Access the device using a terminal emulator application (such as HyperTerminal in a Windows environment or Tip in a UNIX
environment).

Disable any serial communication programs running on the workstation (such as synchronization programs).
