Selecting Recording Format

When shipped from the factory, this
VCR has been set to select
automatically S-VHS format for
recording on an S-VHS tape and VHS
format for recording on a VHS tape.
If you want to make a recording using
VHS format on an S-VHS tape, follow
the procedure below.

Select VCR Set Up Mode

a recording using the VHS format
on an S-VHS tape.

S-VHS ET

This VCR allows recording in Super
VHS ET (Expansion Technology) mode.
You can record with S-VHS picture
quality on VHS cassettes. However, this
funcion is available only for SP
recording.

Select S-VHS ET Mode
1 Press the S-VHS ET button on the
front panel to select S-VHS ET
recording mode before recording.
The lamp will lit.

Notes:
• "Recording" setting cannot be changed
during recording, timer recording, or
when the VCR's power is off.
Also, this function dows not work with
to select
S-VHS tapes.
• To obtain the highest quality recording
and playback pictures over a longer
period on this model, S-VHS ET
recording on S-VHS tape is
recommended.
• You can playback S-VHS ET ET
recordings not only on this VCR but also
on another VHS VCR equipped with
S-VHS ET.
• It is recommended to specifically label
S-VHS ET recordings so you can easily
distinguish them from regular VHS
recordings.
• S-VHS ET recordings can also be played
back on an S-VHS VCR. However, there
may be cases where S-VHS ET playback
is not possible on a particular VCR.
• Frequent still, frame-by-frame and
slow motion playback may damage the
tape and cause picture degradation.
• With some tapes, better picture quality
may not be obtained even with S-VHS
ET recording. It is recommended that you
do test record beforehand to make sure
whether better results can be obtained.
• High Grade tapes are recommended for
superior results.
• If the playback picture becomes blurred
or interrupted, use a cleaning cassette.

Selecting Monitor Sound

This VCR can receive and record stereo
and bilingual programmes, including
the NICAM broadcasts.
If you want to change the sound you
listen to while playing back a HiFi
stereo or bilingual tape, press VCR
then press AUDIO/MUTE repeatedly.
Each time you press the button, the
sound changes as follows:
HiFi stereo
HiFi right channel
on normal audio track
stereo sound + normal audio)
HIFI:
Normally select this mode.
You can play back a HiFi tape in HiFi
stereo mode and monaural tape in
monaural mode.
HIFI L:
Select this mode when you want to
play back the sound recorded on HiFi
left channel (usually main language)
of a bilingual programme.
HIFI R:
Select this mode when you want to
play back the sound recorded on HiFi
right channel (usually sub-language)
of a bilingual programme.
NORMAL MONO:
Select this mode when you want to
play back the sound recorded on the
normal audio track of the tape.
HIFI+NORMAL:
Select this mode when you want to
play back a mixed sound of the HiFi
tracks and the normal audio track.
Note:
• The connections described in "VCR to AV
When using the menu to
select monitor sound
Normally you do not need to use this
menu to select monitor sound.
When you select monitor sound by
pressing AUDIO/MUTE, this menu is
automatically set correctly.
