1. The data is slow to appear so be certain to allow a 15 - 20 seconds for an action to complete
before moving to the next step. Also keep in mind that some steps may not provide data to
the window. Wait a little time and then continue.
2. The following example was performed on a Windows 2000 PC. Other operating systems may
have slight differences in the presentation of options. The important part of this test is getting
a response back from the NEGOTIATE at the end of the document.
3. The use of HyperTerminal might not work properly for some PCs and systems. The result is
|
typically a false failure. If the procedure works as expected, the result can be trusted. But if it
|
|
fails, it is still possible that connectivity is working as expected. This problem depends on
various factors which are not limited to the serial port characteristics and the adapter used in
|
the system.
|
Installing HyperTerminal:
To install HyperTerminal, follow these steps.
1. Click your path.
v Start → Programs → Accessories → Communications → HyperTerminal
v Start → Programs → Communications → HyperTermiAccessoriesnal
Note: You want the executable and not one of the predefined connections or the folder.
2. If it is not found, use these instructions to install it:
a. Place the installation media, if CD-ROM, into the CD—ROM drive and wait for the program to
begin. Then, close the window. If the program did not automatically start, or the installation media
is not a CD-ROM, continue with the next step.
b. Click Start → Settings → Control Panel.
c. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
d. Click Windows Setup.
e. Select Communications.
f. Click Details.
g. Place a check mark in the box preceding HyperTerminal by clicking on the box.
h. Click OK.
i. Click Apply.
j. Follow the instructions in any prompts that may show up. If you are presented a window in which
you might replace a newer file with an older one, click Yes to keep the newer file.
