6 Dedicated Peripheral Devices

The following devices are connected to the MCU without jumper connections and so cannot
be disconnected from the MCU on the SK-MB91594-208M04. A brief explanation of their
connection and use is given below.

6.1 External Flash Memory (U7)

The External Flash memory on the starter-kit is a 512Mb (64Mbyte) MirrorBit Eclipse flash
manufactured by Spansion. The full part number of the IC is S29GL512S10TFI020. The
flash memory is connected to the MCU pins which belong to the GDC's External Control
module.
The data transfer to and from the Flash memory is done in 16-bits/transfer cycle. Therefore
the MCU should generate addresses at half-word boundary only. For using the GDC's
External interface in 16-bit address mode, the pin A0 of the MCU which resolves the byte
location is left unconnected. The schematic for the External Flash Memory is given below to
explain the connection.
The pins dedicatedly used by External Flash Memory are:
1) Pins P020, P021, P022, P023, P026, P027.
2) Complete ports 0, 1, 3, 4, 5.

6.2 QVGA Display (DISP1)

The starter-kit comes with a 24bpp QVGA LCD Display (part no. PH320240T-006-I03Q)
mounted on the board. Before using the Display, its initialization is required which is done
through the SPI interface of the Display. MCU's Multifunctional-Serial Interface Channel 1 is
connected to the display SPI interface through the jumper settings as explained in section
UG-910097-11
