2. Horizontal CCD :
The horizontal transfer section uses a two-phase drive to transfer charges.
Fig. 2 shows a well of potential at each time.
The status at time t
is such that electrode voltage is H1 > H2 therefore, the

electrode of H1with higher potential has a deep well, and charges are stored in
this deep well.
The status at time t
is such that the H1 and H2 voltage relationships are reversed

therefore, the well for H2 is deeper than that of H1. Consequently, the signal
charge flows into the H2 well that is deeper than that of H1. To see the status at
t
, we find that there is no change in electrode voltages therefore, the signal
3
charge flows into the H2 well, thus completing a transfer of one charge.
This operation is repeated again and again until all charges are horizontal
transferred.
