The light may occasionally flicker when
the engine is idling or it may come on
briefly after a hard stop. There is no
cause for concern if it then goes out when
the engine is accelerated slightly.
The light may come on when the oil level
is extremely low. It is not designed to
indicate low oil level, and the oil level
must be checked using the level dipstick.
NOTICE
Do not drive the vehicle with the
warning light on-even for one block.
It may ruin the engine.
(e) Malfunction Indicator Lamp
Vehicles with 1FZ-FE engine-
This lamp warns that there is a problem
somewhere in the engine electrical sys-
tem.
If it comes on while you are driving, have
your vehicle checked/repaired by your To-
yota dealer as soon as possible.

Vehicles with 1HD-FTE engine-
This lamp comes on in the following
cases.
a. The throttle knob is not turned counter-
clockwise
fully
while
driving.
(See
"Throttle knob" in Section 1-6 for in-
structions.)
b. There is a problem somewhere in the
engine electrical system or electronic
engine control system.
If it comes on while driving in case b,
have your vehicle checked/repaired by
your Toyota dealer as soon as possible.
If the engine speed does not increase
when the accelerator pedal is depressed,
there may be a problem somewhere in the
electronic engine control system. Stop the
vehicle and contact your Toyota dealer or
take your vehicle carefully, since the ve-
hicle performance will be lower than nor-
mal, to your Toyota dealer as soon as
possible.
Even if the abnormality in the electronic
engine control system is corrected during
low speed driving, the system may not
recover until the engine is stopped and
the ignition key is turned to the "ACC" or
"LOCK" position.
(f) Low Fuel Level Warning Light
This light comes on when the fuel level
in the tank becomes nearly empty. Fill up
the tank as soon as possible.
On inclines or curves, due to the move-
ment of fuel in the tank, the low fuel level
warning light may come on earlier than
usual.
(g) Open door Warning Light
This light remains on until all the side
doors and back door are completely clo-
sed.
(h) Timing Belt Replacement Warning
Light (diesel-powered vehicles)
This light will come on every time when
the trip amount gets between 140000 and
150000 km in kilometer reading or 90000
miles in mile reading to indicate that the
timing belt should be replaced. When it
comes on, have the belt replaced and the
warning light reset by your Toyota dealer.
NOTICE
Continued driving without having the
belt replaced will result in
a
broken
belt and engine damage.
