Urban driving
Energy is recuperated during frequent deceler-
ation and stopping in city traffic.
The vehicle can be driven by the electric motor
alone up to a speed of approximately 75 mph
(120 km/h).
The vehicle is driven by the electric motor alone
only when all conditions for the automatic
engine switch-off are fulfilled.

Driving on inter-urban roads
The following phases are possible when driving
on inter-urban roads:
rapid acceleration (boost mode)
R
constant energy consumption
R
recuperation
R
electric operation mode
R
A great deal of recovered energy may be avail-
able, depending on the route profile. This
reduces consumption and emissions.
Highway driving
During highway driving, fuel consumption and
emissions are favorably influenced in particular
by reduced power losses.
If the driver takes his/her foot off the accelera-
tor pedal in drive program E and a speed of
100 mph (160 km/h) is not exceeded, the com-
bustion engine is automatically switched off.

Refueling
Refueling
General information
Observe the important safety notes under
"Refueling" in the vehicle Operator's Manual.
The fuel filler cap remains locked if the vehicle
has been unlocked from the outside. Pressure in
the fuel tank must be released before refueling.
Otherwise, you will not be able to open the fuel
filler flap.
The position of the fuel filler cap is displayed in
the instrument cluster 8. The arrow next to
the filling pump indicates the side of the vehicle.
Preparing to refuel
Switch off the engine.

Open the driver's door.

The vehicle electronics now have status 0.
This is the same as the SmartKey having been
removed.
or, if the SmartKey is inserted in the ignition
lock:
Remove the SmartKey from the ignition lock.

Opening the fuel filler flap
The fuel tank must be depressurized using the
fuel tank ventilation before refueling. Otherwise,
you will not be able to open the fuel filler flap.
The opening process for the fuel filler cap may
take up to 15 minutes.
From a speed of 1 mph (2 km/h), the fuel filler
flap can no longer be opened.
