Flexible Modules The SMG-3000 system operates on a modular basis so that you can easily add new hardware, such as cards, or software. There are a number of user (subscriber) slots into which you can insert cards such as a data card, subscriber cards and trunk card.
  • Page 8: Future Expansion

1–2 Introduction Future Expansion You do not need to invest a lot of money and effort to add new functions to the SMG-3000 system. This is because the system offers the following functions. • Connection of digital phones providing a variety of functions through the phone line.
  • Page 9: System Structure

SMG-3000 System Setup This chapter describes how the SMG-3000 system is structured and looks at the cards that can be inserted into the system rack. This manual does not describe the cards in any detail, nor how to connect telephones to the cards.
  • Page 10: Card Types

I/O interface. Subscriber Cards The subscriber cards provide various services to subscribers. The SMG-3000 system can hold a maximum of four subscriber cards in the shelf. For different service types, there are relevant subscriber cards: analogue card, digital card, ISDN card and service card.

Chapter Installing the SMG-3000 System This chapter provides instructions on installing the SMG-3000 system. First, the general procedures are dis- cussed, together with the conditions necessary for installation. Then, it discusses the detailed procedures for installing the rack and inserting the cards. Finally, it explains how to connect the storage battery to supply emergency power to the system if the mains power fails.
  • Page 12: Grounding The System

The SMG-3000 system needs to be supplied with AC power. The power outlet supplying AC power should only be used with the SMG-3000, and should not be used by other devices. The power outlet should be in a safe place where the power cannot be cut off accidentally.

This chapter describes how to connect peripherals such as a printer, the personal computer (PC) for the Maintenance and Administration program (MAP) and the Property Management System (PMS), and so on, to the SMG-3000 system. The I/O Ports The system has a number of I/O ports to which various peripherals and terminals can be connected. These I/O ports are located on the backplane board at the rear of the system and comprise three 25-pin serial ports, a 15-pin LAN port and an RJ-45 LAN port.

  • Page 29: Checking System Functions

Checks should STOP Checking Basic Telephone Functions You should first check the basic functions of the SMG-3000 phone system: these include making internal and external calls, the internal callback function and the external line callback function. When selecting the phone from which to carry out the tests, make sure that it has been assigned a class of service that allows the functions being tested.

Checking the Printer Two types of printer, the system printer and the SMDR printer, may be connected to the SMG-3000 system (see Chapter 4, Connecting Peripherals). Various alarms and event information can be printed and the in- formation can be important if problems occur or for monitoring the system’s activities. Therefore, be sure to check the condition of the printer regularly.
