Speaker Set Up

When you have connected a subwoofer, specify the size of
the front speakers you have connected to change the
frequency range output from the subwoofer so that you
can obtain the best possible surround sound.
Even if you change the setting of "SUBWOOFER" or
"FRONT SPEAKER SIZE," the sound output from the
front speakers do not change.
For the speaker hookups, see pages 18 and 19.
The default settings are underlined.
Select "SPEAKER SETUP" after pressing SET UP.

Selects whether a subwoofer is connected to the player or
not.
• NONE: When a subwoofer is not connected to the
player.
• YES: When a subwoofer is connected to the player, you
can select the output level from the subwoofer in
"FRONT SPEAKER SIZE" according to the front
speakers you are using.
xFRONT SPEAKER SIZE
Selects the size of the connected front speakers. The
frequency range output from the subwoofer varies
according to the size of the front speakers.
You cannot select this item when you set "SUBWOOFER"
to "NONE."
• LARGE: If you connect large speakers that will
effectively reproduce bass frequencies, and play a DVD
recorded in 5.1 channel including LFE signal, select this.
If you feel a lack of bass frequencies from the front
speakers when you select this, select "MIDDLE."

If LFE signal is not recorded in the disc, no sound will be
output from the subwoofer even if you select "LARGE."

• MIDDLE: If you connect large speakers that will
effectively reproduce bass frequencies and play a source
on which LFE signal is not recorded, select this to
output the bass frequencies in the front channel also
from the subwoofer.
If you feel a lack of bass frequencies from the front
speakers when you select this, select "SMALL."
• SMALL: If the sound is distorted, or you feel a lack of
surround effects, select this to output the bass
frequencies, which the front speakers cannot output,
from the subwoofer.
If you feel a lack of bass frequencies from the front
speakers when you select this, select "TV."
• TV: If you do not connect front speakers, select this to
output the bass frequencies from the subwoofer.
If you connect small speakers, select this.

The subwoofer outputs the LFE signal and the frequency
range according to the FRONT SPEAKER SIZE setting.
The LFE signal is output only when the disc contains the LFE
signal.
