TIRE QUALITY GRADES
The following describesthe tir e grading categoriesestab-
lished by the Nationalhighway Traf fic Safety Adminis-
tration.The specific grade rating assigned by the tir e's
manufactur er in each category is shown on the sidewall
ofthe tir es on your car .

Treadwear

The tr eadweargrade isa comparative rating based on the
wear rate of the tir e when tested under contr olled con-
ditions on a specified government test course. For ex-
ample,a tir e graded 150 would wear one and a half (1
1/2) times as well on the government course as a tir e
graded 100.The r elative performance of tir es depends
upon the actual conditions of their use, however , and
may departsignificantly fr om the norm due to variation
in driving habits,servicepracticesand dif fer encesin r
characteristics and climate.
Traction Grades
The traction grades,fr om highestto lowest,ar eAA,A,B,
and C.Those gradesr epr esentthe tir e'sability to stop on
wetpavementas measur ed under contr olled conditions
