318 MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE

Drive ShaftConstantVelocity Joints

All four wheel drive models ar e equipped with four
constant velocity joints. Periodic lubrication of these
joints is notr equir ed.However ,the jointbootshould be
inspected for externalleakage or damage periodically.If
externalleakage ordamage is evident,the jointbootand
gr ease should be r eplaced immediately.Continued op-
eration could r esult in failur e of the joint due to water
and dirtcontamination ofthe gr ease.This would r equir e
complete r eplacementofthe jointassembly.Refer to the
Service Manualfor the detailed r eplacementpr ocedur e.

Body Lubrication

Locks and allbody pivotpoints,including such items as
seattracks,doors and hood hinges,should be lubricated
periodically to assur e quiet,easy operation and to pr otect
against r ust and wear . Prior to the application of any
lubricant,the parts concerned should be wiped clean to
r emove dust and grit; after lubricating excess oil and
gr ease should be r emoved. Particular attention should
also be given to hood latching components to insur e
pr operfunction.When performing otherunder hood ser -
vices,the hood latch,r elease mechanism and safety catc
should be cleaned and lubricated.
The externallock cylinders should be lubricated twice
year , pr eferably in the fall and spring. Apply a small
amountofa high quality lubricantsuch as Mopar
Cylinder Lubricantdir ectly into the lock cylinder .

W indshield W iper Blades

The r ubberedgesofthe wiperbladesand the windshield
should becleaned periodically with a spongeorsoftclot
and a mild nonabrasive cleaner .This willr emove accu-
mulations ofsaltor r oad film.
Operation of the wipers on dry glass for long periods
may cause deterioration ofthe wiperblades.Always use
washerfluid when using the wipersto r emove saltordirt
fr om a dry windshield.
