278 STARTING AND OPERATING
W ARNING!
You or others could be injured if you leave the
vehicle unattended with the transfer case in the
Neutral(N)position withoutfirstfully engaging the
parking brake.The transfercase Neutral(N)position
disengages both the frontand rear driveshafts from
the powertrain and will allow the vehicle to move
despite the transmission position. The parking
brake should always be applied when the driver is
notin the vehicle.
CAUTION!
• Do notuse a bumper mounted clamp-on tow bar
on your vehicle. The bumper face bar will be
damaged.
• Do not disconnect the rear driveshaft because
fluid willleak from the transfercase and damage
internalparts.
TRACTION
When driving on wetorslushy r oads,itis possible fora
wedge of water to build up between the tir e and r oad
surface.This is known as hydr oplaning and may cause
partialor complete loss ofvehicle contr oland stopping
ability.To r educe this possibility,the following pr ec
tions should be observed:
1. Slow down during rainstorms or when r oads ar e
slushy.
