In This Chapter This chapter provides an introduction to the 8-port Ethernet Adapter card and 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter card used in the 7705 SAR-8 and the 7705 SAR-18: • Overview of the 8-port Ethernet Adapter Card and 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter...
The 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter card is equipped with a universal -48 VDC to +24 VDC power supply and is capable of a 1 or 2.5 Gb/s fabric interface. On the 7705 SAR-8, the card supports a 1 Gb/s fabric interface. On the 7705 SAR-8 v2, the card supports a 1 or 2.5 Gb/s fabric interface.
1 is a8-1gb-sfp and for version 2 it is a8-1gb-v2-sfp. Both versions are supported on the 7705 SAR-8 and the 7705 SAR-18. The two versions are identical except that version 2 has more memory to support larger tables, such as FIBs, ACLs, and so on.

(version 1 and version 2) For information such as power consumption, environmental specifications, and adapter card physical specifications for the 7705 SAR-8 or 7705 SAR-18 hardware, refer to the “System Specifications” section in the 7705 SAR-8 Chassis Installation Guide and the 7705 SAR-18 Chassis Installation Guide.
Installing Adapter Cards Provisioning Requirements To configure cards and ports, you must be able to access the 7705 SAR-8 or 7705 SAR-18 by console or Telnet connection. Refer to the 7705 SAR-8 Chassis Installation Guide or 7705 SAR-18 Chassis Installation Guide for information and instructions on console and Telnet connections.
8-port Ethernet Adapter card version 1 in slots MDA 1 and 2 on a 7705 SAR-8. The 7705 SAR-8 supports up to 6 adapter cards and the 7705 SAR-18 supports up to 12 adapter cards in any combination that does not exceed the maximum. However, for a network application, at least one of the installed cards must be a network-capable adapter card.
The following example displays the card, card-type, mda and mda-type commands to specify the IOM as an iom-sar type, and provision 8-port Ethernet Adapter cards in slots MDA 1 and 2 on a 7705 SAR-8. ALU-1>config# card 1 ALU-1>config>card# card-type iom-sar ALU-1>config>card# mda 1...

If you will be replacing it with a card of the same type, you do not need to remove the associated configuration. Refer to the 7705 SAR OS Interface Configuration Guide for details on configuring cards and ports.
Do not power up a 7705 SAR-8 or 7705 SAR-18 before verifying that all common equipment (chassis, power, cooling, and grounding) is connected properly. • The Fan module and all cards in the 7705 SAR-8 chassis must have the same voltage type. •...
8-port Ethernet Adapter card version 2 is available in either a -48 VDC/-60 VDC variant or a +24 VDC variant. Only the -48/-60 VDC variant of the 8-port Ethernet Adapter card version 2 can be installed in the 7705 SAR-18 chassis as the 7705 SAR-18 does not support +24 VDC power.
• torque driver for Phillips screws In order to ensure the best performance and to ensure that the 7705 SAR-8 chassis remains compliant with EMC requirements, when installing or removing adapter cards or filler plates in/from the 7705 SAR-8 chassis, the following procedure must be followed.
To insert an adapter card, see Figure 4 Table Figure 4 shows the installation of an 8-port Ethernet Adapter card on the 7705 SAR-8 chassis; this procedure also applies to the 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter card. 7705 SAR Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Card Installation Guide...
0.45 N Step 7. If you replaced the adapter card, check the Power LED on the adapter card faceplate. If the adapter card is properly inserted and the 7705 SAR-8 has valid power, the Power LED is lit blue. Refer to Connector and LED Descriptions more information on the LEDs.
To remove an adapter card, see Figure 5 Table Figure 5 shows the removal of an 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter card from the 7705 SAR-18 chassis; this procedure also applies to the 8-port Ethernet Adapter card. 7705 SAR Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Card Installation Guide...
The recommended torque is 3 to 4 lbf-in (0.34 to 0.45 N Step 7. If you replaced the adapter card, check the Power LED on the adapter card faceplate. If the adapter card is properly inserted and the 7705 SAR-18 has valid power, the Power LED is lit blue. Refer to Connector and LED Descriptions more information on the LEDs.

1490 nm, the near-end SFP must transmit at 1490 nm and receive at 1310 nm. T3/E3 SFP The T3/E3 SFP is used to interconnect two 7705 SARs over a T3 physical interface. The E3 interface is not supported. The SFP can only operate with 7705 SARs at either end. The 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter card does not support the T3/E3 SFP.
